Catalog Index
Pro Feature
Requires WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks Pro.
What Catalog Index does
On large stores, building filter option counts (how many products per category or attribute) can slow AJAX responses. Catalog Index maintains an optimized index of catalog data so counts and option lists resolve faster.
Enable it when:
- You have hundreds or thousands of products
- Category or attribute filters feel slow to update
- Server timeouts occur when loading filter options
Small catalogs may not notice a difference; the free plugin is often sufficient below ~500 SKUs.
Enable Catalog Index
- Go to Settings → WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks (Pro section). See Pro settings.
- Enable Catalog Index.
- Save settings.
- If a Rebuild index button is present, run it after large product imports or bulk edits.
Allow the initial index build to complete before load-testing shop filters.
After product changes
Rebuild or refresh the index when you:
- Import products in bulk
- Change category or attribute assignments site-wide
- Migrate from another store
Day-to-day edits to individual products usually update automatically; follow on-screen admin notices if the plugin prompts a rebuild.
Verify improvement
- Open a shop page with multiple taxonomy filters.
- Use browser Network tab to compare response times before and after enabling Catalog Index.
- Confirm counts match expected product totals for sample categories.
If counts look wrong after rebuild, see Empty options or counts.
