Auto Suggest
Requires WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks Pro.
What Auto Suggest does
Auto Suggest shows a dropdown of matching posts or products before the visitor submits a full search filter—similar to autocomplete on large e-commerce sites.
It complements the free plugin's live search filter item, which applies search directly to the loop. Auto Suggest helps visitors pick a likely match quickly.
Enable Auto Suggest
-
Ensure WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks Pro is active. See Install Pro.
-
Edit your filter page in the block editor.
-
Select a Filter Posts Item with Filter source: Search.
-
Enable Auto Suggest in the filter item settings (Pro section).
-
Configure:
- Minimum characters before suggestions appear (e.g. 2–3)
- Maximum suggestions shown
- Post types included in suggestions (products, posts, CPTs)
-
Save and test on the front end.
UX recommendations
- Place the search filter at the top of the filter panel or above the loop.
- Keep debounce reasonable so suggestions do not fire on every keystroke unnecessarily.
- Style the dropdown to match your theme; suggestion markup uses plugin classes for CSS targeting.
With other filters
Auto Suggest search works alongside category, price, and attribute filters. Selecting a suggestion should apply search criteria consistently with manual search entry.
Enable URL sync so suggested searches produce shareable URLs. See URL sync.
Performance
On very large catalogs, pair Auto Suggest with Catalog Index for faster backend lookups.
