Blocks Overview
WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks is built entirely for the WordPress block editor (Gutenberg). Every filtered archive page is assembled from three blocks that share a post type and communicate over AJAX—no page builder required.
The three blocks
| Block | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Archive Loop | Runs the query and displays results—posts, products, or custom post types—in a grid or list layout with pagination. |
| Filter Posts | Container for your filter panel. Controls when filters update, layout, reset behaviour, and how the panel connects to loops. |
| Filter Posts Item | One filter control (child of Filter Posts). Each item filters by category, search, price, custom meta, and more. |

Typical page structure
- Add an Archive Loop where results should appear.
- Add a Filter Posts block above or beside the loop.
- Insert one or more Filter Posts Item blocks inside Filter Posts—one per filter field.
- Set the same Post type on Filter Posts and Archive Loop (e.g.
PostorProduct). - Mark the Archive Loop as Main loop when it is the primary target for filters on the page.
For a step-by-step first build, see Quick Start.
Where settings live
Each block splits settings between Content (query, behaviour, layout) and Design (colours, typography, spacing). This reference focuses on content settings that affect filtering behaviour. Design panels follow the same patterns across blocks—background, border, spacing, and text styling.
| Block | Key content panels |
|---|---|
| Archive Loop | Loop options, loop template, grid, elements (pagination, result count) |
| Filter Posts | Main, layout, extra, mobile |
| Filter Posts Item | Main, layout options, select/radio/range/search, empty options, counts |
Connecting blocks
On a simple page with one Filter Posts block and one Main loop Archive Loop sharing the same post type, blocks connect automatically. No manual wiring is needed.
Use Block selector ID on both Filter Posts and Archive Loop when you have multiple filter panels or loops on one page and need to pair them explicitly. See Filter panel and loop.
