Installation

Before you install

Confirm your environment meets the prerequisites:

  • WordPress 6.4+
  • PHP 7.4+
  • WooCommerce (optional, for product filtering)

You will use the block editor to place and configure blocks after activation. No additional page builder is required.

Install the free plugin from WordPress.org

WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks is distributed free on WordPress.org.

From the WordPress admin

  1. Go to Plugins → Add New Plugin.
  2. Search for WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks or WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks.
  3. Click Install Now on WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks.
  4. Click Activate.

From wordpress.org directly

  1. Visit WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks on WordPress.org.
  2. Download the plugin zip.
  3. In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
  4. Choose the zip file, click Install Now, then Activate.

WP-CLI

wp plugin install wpenhanced-ajax-filter-blocks --activate

Verify activation

After activation:

  1. Open any page or template in the block editor.
  2. Click + to add a block and search for Archive Loop, Filter Posts, or Filter Posts Item.
  3. Blocks appear under the Ajax Filter category when the plugin is active.

If blocks do not appear, clear any full-page cache and confirm the plugin is activated under Plugins.

Install WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks Pro (optional)

WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks Pro is a separate add-on—not listed on WordPress.org. It requires the free plugin to be installed and active first.

  1. Purchase a license from WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks Pro.
  2. Download the Pro plugin zip from your WP Enhanced account.
  3. Go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
  4. Upload the Pro zip and click Install Now, then Activate.

Pro extends the same three blocks and settings screens; it does not replace the free plugin. Keep WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks active alongside Pro.

tip

Install and test the free plugin on a staging site before adding Pro. That confirms your theme, post types, and WooCommerce setup work with the core blocks.

Initial settings

After activation, open Settings → WPEnhanced Ajax Filter Blocks (exact menu label may vary slightly by version). Useful first checks:

Setting areaWhat to review
GeneralDefault behaviors that apply site-wide
Caching / performanceOptions that affect how filter responses are cached
IntegrationsWooCommerce and third-party toggles if present

You can leave defaults for your first test; revisit after building a page with the Quick start guide.

Multisite and managed hosting

  • Multisite: Install and activate per site (or network-activate if your policy allows). Each site configures its own filter pages in the block editor.
  • Managed hosting: Some hosts block REST routes or aggressive-cache HTML. If filters do not update after install, see Troubleshooting (when available) or ask your host to exclude AJAX filter REST endpoints from full-page cache.

Updating the plugin

  • Free: Update from Dashboard → Updates or Plugins when WordPress.org shows a new version.
  • Pro: Download updated zip files from your WP Enhanced account and upload via Plugins → Add New → Upload, or use your license updater if the Pro package includes one.

Always back up the site before major updates, especially on WooCommerce stores.

Uninstalling

Deactivating the plugin stops blocks from rendering and removes front-end filtering behavior. Uninstalling removes plugin data according to the uninstall routine in the plugin package. Export or document custom filter pages before uninstall if you may reinstall later.
